Project 5: Independent Project - Website Re-think
Re-Design
Using the Image Switcher it doesn't completely switch the images over it only temporarily switches the during a hover state and doesn't work for complete switch over.
This has forced me to re-think and re-design my website to accomodate this. I have descided that instead of have one preview that you change the images on to create your desired product (T-Shirt etc..). I will have a preview grid, where each character has its own window and preview, which using the Image Switcher has hover states to show customization.
If that isn't explained well my original website and my new website will be linked in following posts.

Project 5: Independent Project - Css Image Switcher
Tutorial
To creat my site i was having trouble figuring out how to get images to change when you hover or click a link, without creating separate pages to give the impression of the image switching.
Andrew suggested using Css Image Switcher and gave me a PDF instruction to help. Although I coudn't make alot of sense out of the PDF i did however find a very usful, quick and easy video explaining everything.
The video is by Chris Coyier and can be found here.

Project 5: Independent Project - Website Mock-Up
Here is my moch-up for my site. From this I will:
- Remove the footer = it is not needed as the site doesn't scroll at all.
- Remove drop down menu's = again they are not needed everything can easily fit on one page.
- Widen the content box = This will give more room for content and less waisted space.
- Place the colour selectors down the side = This will clear room for a bigger T-Shirt preview.
- Make the T-Shirt preview bigger = With more space a bigger preview is available and that i key to my site.
- Move navigation = Moveing the navigation to beside the logo will use up waisted space and allow more room for content.
- Navigation text bigger = With moving the navigation it gives more space for bigger text in links.

Project 5: Independent Project - Pitch
Pitch Images - Inspiration and Progress
Inspiration
These are a few images that i have either found inspiration from or found interested and relevant to this project and getting my idea across.
Miffy Disney
- This image is of a popular kids cartoon character called Miffy as different Disney characters. The image is laid out non-symmetrical which is a little off putting to me, but the idea i similar to what i want to create.
- Although my bunny's will be all unique, they will have the same initial template shape.
Movie Cat
- Movie Cat an app game, it is a movie quiz game where all questions have clues related to cats in some way. The most notable being a picture question where the clue is a image of a cat dressed as the movies main
character.
- They are not always well known movies though. My bunny's will all me from popular culture centring around comics, cartoons and movie culture.
Minimalist Superheroes
- The simple lines and key features that have been picked out make these superheroes easy to name. Similarly i wish to create bunny's that are easy to tell who they are meant to be or represent.
Progress Images
This is a few set-up and starting images. Some progress into how my idea will work. All bunny's will be white unless the character specifically needs to be a different colour. And none will have faces unless they have a mask.
For the pitch i create to complete bunny's, first there is Robyn from Batman, as one of my favourite characters i wanted to make him first.
- The larger version will be used for T-Shirts, Posters and Postcards. The smaller for Key rings. And maybe T-Shirts as well.
Next I created Wonder Woman as she is easily recognised.
- Without a face or a mask though i am not quite sure if i like her as much as Robyn.
For Posters I have five different layouts depending on the amount of bunny's on the poster.
First there is one bunny layout, this is for postcards as well. The grey outline have been removed from the original bunny design, it looks fine on a white background but for coloured backgrounds it doesn't
Other layouts allow a choice of bunny's on the poster. Layout number include 4, 5, 8 or 12 bunny's per poster. I havn't got a preview of the 4 or 5 bunny posters but these are for the 8 or 12 posters.

Pitch Feedback - Changes and Thoughts
With initial feedback from the pitch, i have decided that each bunny will have a face dependant on who the bunny is.
Also a plain background for posters and postcards is better than a gradient but not back or white.

Project 5: Independent Project - Performa 1
Initial Performa 1 - Short Paragraph (76 words)
My main objective of this project is to produce a site and brand that can be run as a personal business. For this project I will be producing branding and a website for a product and a range of posters, post cards and other merchandise. And to update and redesign my personal portfolio site to include work from this year, make it easier to update regularly and have clearer links / feeds from my social media.
Re-write Performa 1 ( words)
The main aim of this project is to create a brand, an identity and a company that can be run as a stand alone business. For this I will create a fully function online store website, with paypal integration to sell products related to my main theme. My main theme is Rabbits or Bunny's as characters from popular culture, whether that is comics, cartoons, movies or video games. This site will sell T-Shirts, Posters, Postcards and Key rings, each customisable to the buyers specification and style.
The site will have room for expansion whether that's with new Bunny's or new products. I hope to add other products like, bags, hoodies and notebooks in the future. With this I hope to expand my knowledge of hand coding, with integration of a shopping cart / shopping system.
My target audience is anyone really. Though it will be more appealing to those who know the characters also the main age group will be between 15 - 25. It is a large age group as this culture doesn't have an age limit minim or maximum.

Project 5: Independent Project - Time Management
Here I have planned out my schedule for a basic week. This does not include, dissertation or project work outside of class.
Purple = Work
Grey = Class
White = Free
Red = Other
Using this i can plan out when i will have a large amount of free time in which i can focus solely on work.
This will primarily be between 7pm - 11pm Monday and Tuesday. Up until Wednesday theory lessons are stopped, then i will have Wednesday morning free aswell.

Project 5: Independent Project - Initial Ideas
Three quotes
I have chosen three of the quotes to look into and come up with an initial idea.
Jean Baudrillard
“We live in a world where there is more and more information, and less and less meaning.” Jean Baudrillard, Simulacra and Simulation.
For this I thought about creating a typographic piece / a series of posters that provide the reader with information about a particular subject but not all of it is useful.
Henry Jenkins
“...Fan fiction is a way of the culture repairing the damage done in a system where contemporary myths are owned by corporations instead of owned by the folk.” Henry Jenkins
For this again I thought of doing a series of posters, showing differences in mytholodgy between different cultures. For example the apperence of one mythological creature can differ greatly between cultural myths.
Indepents Idea
For this I would like to create an online store. My main theme will be Rabbits as characters from popular culture on T-Shirts, Poster, Postcards and keyrings.
This would give me the oppertunity to progress my scripting abilities and learn how to integrate shopping into a site.

If post-modernism defined 1980s, remix definitely dominates 2000s, and it will probably continue to rule the next decade as well.Manovich, Lev. What comes after Remix?
2 - “We live in a world where there is more and more information, and less and less meaning.” Jean Baudrillard, Simulacra and Simulation
3 - “To practice space is thus to repeat the joyful and silent experience of childhood; it is, in a place, to be other and to move toward the other...Kandinsky dreamed of: 'a great city built according to all the rules of architecture and then suddenly shaken by a force that defies all calculation.” Michel de Certeau, The Practice of Everyday Life

6 - “Do stuff. be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration's shove or society's kiss on your forehead. Pay attention. It's all about paying attention. attention is vitality. It connects you with others. It makes you eager. stay eager.” Susan Sontag
7 - “By the late twentieth century, our time, a mythic time, we are all chimeras, theorized and fabricated hybrids of machine and organism; in short, we are cyborgs.” Donna J. Haraway
8 - A project of your choice (you may want to use a different quote as a starting point, or it could be something completely different).

Project 4: D&AD - Little White Lies Progress
Here is so of the progress on my piece.
I have finished the background which i have created on a separate piece of paper from the actual piece.
Also here is my initial sketch outline of the piece.
Project 4: D&AD - HP Crit + Change of Brief
After my Crit, I have decieded that I have picked the wrong brief. I have choosen to change briefs to Little White Lies and produce a magazine cover for the movie Super 8. To do this I would like to produce a physical piece using black chalk on plain white paper.
Here are a few images of the main character that i will work from:
Project 4: D&AD - HP Pitch Presentation
Here is my pitch presentation which includes my moodboard, though the animatic does not run properly: (the password = dandad)

Project 4: D&AD - HP Brief + Videos
With looking closer at the HP brief I have pulled out key information for this brief.
'Your challenge is to make a work of moving image that describes the idea of a station where creative work is made and produced. It can be based on reality and the way you work or it could be a conceptual visualization.'
The Target Audience is =
- Anyone using technology to be creative: professionals, students and tutors in art and design education, and anyone in the creative industry.
- Specific audiences include: animators, filmmakers, graphic designers, art directors and digital media producers.
And it is to be a Motion Graphics piece.

The Target Audience is =
- Clubbers and dance music lovers from all walks of life, with an average age of around 18-30. A night at Saturday Sessions will be the highlight of their month and will be something that they will plan
well in advance.

Project 3: Processing - Game Inspiration
Our last assignment is to produce a game using processing.
"Using your new found code skills, like animation, collision detection, basic logic and managing arrays of custom classes, I want you to create a fun game. It doesn't need an intro page or instructions, it only requires a game play element, and a game over state. The focus should be on fun and simplicity. There's no point in making a really complicated game if it's not fun! In order to achieve fun, adjust the speed that things move, how the game is controlled, and how it looks. It can be abstract, so shapes and lines are OK. Just try to pick nice colours, and have other graphical niceties, like trails and particle effects. Sound effects can also help."
For this I looked into some games which i believe could be simpliefied in processing.
'Pac-man' was the first game that sprang to mind but i think it would be very complicated to transfer to processing.
Next i thought of 'Pong' but found this to be to simple and i would like to do something more challenging.
Then i decieded i either wanted to do a shooting game or an obsticle game. For an obsticle game i thought of doing something similar to 'Sky Pigs' and for a shooting game I wanted something like 'Duck Shoot'.
I have decided on Duck Shoot as it will be simpler also i like ducks.

Project 3: Processing - Clickable Buttons
Secong assignment to make some clickable buttons:
"Using the interactive stripes as an example, I want you to create a Button object. It can be rectangular or circular, it's up to you. Then I want you to make an array of the buttons. They should move around the screen and when they reach the edges, they either bounce off or loop around to the other side of the screen. When you click on a button, it changes colour. When you click it again it reverts to its original colour. You have until the end of Tuesday 10th January."
